Pen and paper is so old school that on the rare occasion in
my house when someone needs to leave a note to someone the best we can do is a
sharpie and the back of an envelope. I mean, really; pens are so 2000.
Well I guess it’s time we ate our words as it were because we’ve
just found 2014’s answer to the Bic biro? Could there be anything more modern
than the Lix pen? Unless they’ve invented that amazing computerized wardrobe
from Clueless then I think not.
The Lix pen, which was launched on Kickstarter yesterday, is
the latest contender in the 3D printer game.
Although it’s certainly not the first of its kind (we’re looking at you
3Doodle) it is certainly the most stylish and lightweight hand held 3D printer
we’ve ever seen.
The pen, which can be powered simply by plugging in to your
computer via a USB port, works by melting and cooling plastic which then
creates free standing designs in mid-air. The London based creators are hoping
that the Lix will be something that can be used by professionals such as
architects and designers.
So far the Lix has far surpassed the £30,000 that they were
hoping to raise for the project and at time of writing have raised a staggering
£299,604. If you’re looking to get your hands on one of this pretty impressive
piece of tech then you’ll be looking at around £82 with a delivery date just in
time for Christmas.
