Designed for “Instagram-aholics on the go” Lulu Guinness has worked with Autographer manufacturer OMG Life to create a bag with a camera embedded inside. With a 136° eye view lens and a tiny GPS unit, it’s been designed specifically to work with this bag. Five built-in sensors use an algorithm to somehow understand exactly which moments are photo-worthy and take the picture without you having to point or click. The camera can take up to 2000 images per day, and store them safely on an 8GB hard drive.
"I've always tried to push boundaries and looked to think outside the box with my designs. I have been following the growing interest in wearable technology within the fashion industry, so am excited to partner with Autographer and take our first steps to merge the two with a touch of style and humour" - Lulu Guinness. It sounds slightly farfetched, but Autographer has already been creating these devices for would-be photographers who don’t want to lift a finger. Their cameras are usually worn around the neck or clipped onto tops: what makes this design different is that it’s been incorporated into a bag and won’t be taking pictures straight-on.
And nothing’s been sacrificed in terms of style. It’s based on a design from Lulu Guinness’ Autumn/Winter 2014 collection: a crossbody bag with a slim shoulder strap and boxy shape. An eye motif, in Guinness’ signature style, hints at the bag’s real purpose but the camera is still well-concealed (poking out through the pupil). If you’re the kind of person who always wants to take photos, but is reluctant to be that person recording every minute instead of letting go and having fun, this is the perfect way to catch memories of your summer.
At £395 it’s a lot more expensive than Instagram, but we’re hoping this is the start of a more stylish relationship between technology and accessories.
