Cycling accessories have come a
long way in the last few years, and now that summer’s arrived more of us are pedaling to work than ever. So we’ve picked out a few of the best biking labels to know
about, and pinpointed the truly special pieces that are worth getting excited
about.
Saddle
& Spoke
Claire
Armstrong founded Saddle & Spoke in 2012, combining 15 years of experience in the design industry
with her love of cycling. “We believe cycling isn't
just about getting from a to b, it's about enhancing your lifestyle, having fun
and looking good while doing it” she says.
The
Honeycomb Helmet, £155, is bang on trend for summer and hand-painted with ink
and acrylics. They also offer saddles, handlebars and clothing, but we think
it’s the bike storage solutions that really stand out. Bikes can slot into
cubist shelving, or are held in place by bull-shaped wire holders (top image).
Bells Bicycles
Bells Bicycles are best known for their rainbow-colour bikes,
with cute names like Bramble and Birdie, but their accessories are just as
design-focused. Helmets are either impossibly glossy in high-shine metallics,
or shaped like animals. And they offer the sweet wicker baskets that you always
imagine cycling around the countryside with, alongside some colourful wire
models.
Sahn
If you prefer a minimalist aesthetic, but still want
something special, then Sahn should be your go-to helmet brand. Sleek and
understated, they’re the closest you can get to wearing a hat while still
protecting yourself. And they come in a stylish colour palette of muted
neutrals, too.
Sögreni
For all those little bits – bells, pedals, fenders - Sögreni does
them best, in an urban, distressed and vintage metal kind of way. Their bells
come in a choice of copper, brass, steel and zinc, for the detail-oriented
cyclist, and everything is made by hand in limited numbers. All bikes are
tailored to the customer’s lifestyle and preferences, and test ridden for an
hour to make sure every little detail runs perfectly.
Alexander Wang
This is Alexander Wang’s take on the humble water bottle and
bike lock. They come with a designer price tag to match his must-loved bags,
but they’re seriously stylish. Think blackened steel, croc patterned padlocks
and an embossed leather holder for your water. There’s also a gold-handled
skipping rope if you want to extend his urban aesthetic across all your
workouts.
