It’s not often you can find really cool quirky pieces that
are actually affordable. Most designers that design in such sophisticated
conceptualised ways understandably charge the world for their unique pieces.
On learning that Meadham
Kirchhoff has teamed up with Topshop came as a pleasant surprise, where now
we can now buy wearable art that is fashionable as well as affordable.
The two university friends behind the brand, Benjamin Kirchhoff
and Edward Meadham, both studied at one of London’s most prestigious fashion
schools called Central Saint Martins. Both studied fashion design but Benjamin
specialised in menswear and Edward in womenswear. On graduating university the pair set their
aspirations high, in which they were committed in leaving a mark on the
industry with the label they both set up together, called Benjamin Kirchhoff in
2003. The spring summer collection saw heavy feminine style aesthetics translated in designs that have lace lingerie detailing in silk and chiffon fabrics contrasted with tailoring and intricate prints and metal embellishment.
The ingenious double act have now teamed up with Topshop
and have delivered a tasteful collection of womenswear clothing that is iconoclastic
in opulent designs. The elaborate pieces are distinctive and in keeping with
the pair’s signature style, in which each piece tells its own little story.
Not all of the pieces are theatrical bold pieces of art; the
collection sees some subtle pieces like lace camisoles and baby pink hair
accessories.
I’ve listed my top key pieces from the collection...
