So many of the designers that we feature on this blog are
unattainable for most people. Either they’re eye-wateringly expensive or their
pieces are still a conceptual idea, not yet available to buy. And as much as we
love looking at what the future holds, it’s sometimes a welcome change to
applaud collections that are rooted in the here and now.
So we couldn’t ignore Puma’s collaboration with ASOS,
released online this month. It’s arrived just in time to save us from the
boredom of the post-Christmas sales (it’s been almost a full month now, there’s
nothing left) and couldn’t feel any more current.
There are only eleven pieces available to buy right now,
making it a very exclusive capsule collection, but each of those styles is
incredibly loud. They bring a street feel to retro athletic wear, waking up
their cool monochrome palette with a splash of bright tomato red. It’s perfect for
livening up your January wardrobe before spring really arrives, with jackets, joggers,
pencil skirts and crop tops that mix the classic Puma logo with on-trend checks
and animal prints.
One of my favourite styles would have to be this cropped
sweatshirt: I love the contrast of the cool white sleeves and high neckline
against that dizzying animal print in red and black. It’s got a laidback
eighties feel to it, which will look great with bleached denim or a pair of leather
shorts.
But if you feel like taking a more sophisticated approach,
this bonded pencil skirt is the way to go. With a dramatic slit at the front
and back, its high waist and midi length would look perfect with a simple black
top (preferably a cropped one).
Wear the collection head to toe for a bold, street-inspired
statement, or mix it up with denim and leather for a more chilled out approach.
Whether you choose one piece or three, they’re bound to shake up your style at
a time when everyone else is growing sick of their pastel pink coats and fluffy
knitwear.
