You instantly know
when you have spotted a great designer. My eyes were well please with the
latest works of Mai-Giah. I was more than enthralled as I looked
through his past and present collections.
Alex Ali Adbulrahim is
the designer behind the concept brand Mai-Gidah. He studied Fine Arts in
Belgium in Sint-Niklass.
This spring summer we
got to see the designer work his magic once again demonstrating his efforts in a
distinctive menswear collection entitled Summer Frost. Adbulrahnim’s collection
is visually enduring with each piece commanding its own undivided attention as
though it were a piece of art. The collection aims to unite the classic and
modern gentleman, which translates in to futuristic wearable art.
What is so great about
the style of his pieces is that even the not so flamboyant male fashionista
would feel comfortable wearing these exquisite pieces because Adbulrahim has
not taken his silhouettes and cuts out of context of how a regular man likes to
wear fashion.
Each style sees
refined detailing in a collection that is made up tailored trousers, robes with
intricate detailing some may deem as feminine accents. Many of the pieces
are sartorial inspired the designer brings together effortlessly style and practicality executed well with his T-shirts bearing bow ties.
I’m huge fan of
concept fashion at the best of times which is why I’m transfixed with the
notion of emotion within the designers work. The style of Adbulrahims work
mirrors to that of his emotions. I love the way that the designer is able to
translate his thoughts into beautiful equivocal designs. The designer merges
his childhood and travel memories with his research knowledge and skills to
produce reinstated visions of menswear.
What really makes a
collection truly special is when a designer’s creativity is innovative within an aspect of the design process. Adbulrahim has done just this by exploring different cuts with in old patterns, which
subsequently gives us the strong fantasy silhouettes within his pieces.
I love dynamic interesting clothes which this collection has to offer because its just the right balance of textures. The dramatic silhouettes
of this collection remind me that of Xiao-li very much out of this world fashion. Xiao-li and Mai-Gidah's collections have not been mass-produced, where I'm sure both parties and especially Adbulrahim feel strongly against this aggressively growing
disposable culture.
The collection is interesting to say the least, I love fashion that
contrasts because it makes fashion more quirky and fun and what really
sets this collection apart from any menswear label is the way that Adbulrahims
work juxtaposes bold shapes with uncanny fabric mediums that just makes my eyes fuzz
with delight.
