• Mary Katrantzou for Adidas Originals

Mary Katrantzou SS14
When Alexander Wang announced a forthcoming collaboration with H&M (due to hit stores on November 6), it was the fashion news of the week. So far all we’ve seen is a simple countdown on his Instagram feed, but it was enough to get ALEXANDER WANG X H&M trending on Twitter, and the date of its arrival instantly went into every fashionista’s diary.

But only a few dates later we’ve been hit with the news that Mary Katrantzou is teaming up with Adidas Originals. The timing is incredible – two of the youngest, coolest designers in the world announcing collaborations with high street brands within just a few days of each other. If only we didn’t have to wait so long for the results to arrive – Mary Katrantzou for Adidas isn’t expected until Autumn either, which means it’s going to be a long summer of built-up expectations.

What we do know is that the collection Greek-born Katrantzou has had a relationship with the sportswear brand since childhood. "I grew up, like so many other kids around the world, wearing adidas trainers and I'm really excited about bringing my vision to such a global brand," she said of the collaboration’s announcement.
Stella McCartney for Adidas
And Adidas Originals has serious fashion credentials as well. They’ve been working with Stella McCartney since 2004, way before sports luxe became a real trend, so they know how to marry high-fashion vision with technical fabrics and athletic details. But whereas McCartney works with a sophisticated and feminine aesthetic, both in her Adidas sportswear and her main line, Katrantzou is really known for her use of vivid colour and kaleiscope patterns. We can’t wait to see how those signatures will translate to sneakers (we hope there’s footwear involved!).
Mary Katrantzou for Current/Elliott
Dirk Schoenberger, the global creative director of the Adidas Originals sport style division told the press:  "I admire Mary's extraordinary sense of printing techniques, colours and silhouette that will bring another amazing new aesthetic to the adidas originals women's collection." So it sounds like the pieces will definitely have her designer DNA stamped all over them.
Mary Katrantzou for Topshop
For those of us who missed her collection for Topshop, this is a chance to get our hands on her beautiful, but unaffordable, work. And what’s even more exciting, is that it doesn’t sound like a one-off. Vogue.co.uk describes the collaboration as a “long-term union” so hopefully there will be at least two collections, if not more. And we know from her work at both Topshop and Current/Elliott that Katrantzou can really deliver a more affordable line without sacrificing her love of colour and 3D prints, so this will definitely be one to watch.
