Nail art has been around for a while now, it’s nothing new.
With nail bars on every corner and a WAH nails salon inside Topshop’s flagship
store on Oxford Street it’s no exaggeration to say that getting your nails did
has really reached the mainstream.
If you’re getting a little tired with all of the bells and
whistles of a normal manicure and long for something a little more out there
then the Laser Girls have got what you’re looking for.
Sarah Awad and Dhemerae Ford are the two halves who go by
the seriously cool moniker of the Laser Girls. Having met at New York
University when they were both working in the 3D printing lab the idea for
their business blossomed.
The concept of the laser girls is to create impressively
intricate false nails using 3D printing technology. Awad explained ‘We didn’t
think they would work, but we were surprised, we thought they would be too
thin, plus we weren’t sure about how much detail we would get.’ But the result
of their work is truly impressive.
Their line features a series of designs from tactile wave
designs to gothic style talons and even rings, the girls noticed a gap in the
market when it came to artistic nail art; ‘I think it’s moved from high fashion
into something every woman can wear’, Awad noted.
The designs start at around $35 for nylon styles up to $80
for metal designs but before you think that they’re a little pricey for a set
of fake nails; they are re-usable.
They can be put on using standard nail glue and can be
washed and re-applied again and again making them much more wallet friendly
than a pair that can only be used once!
What do you think of the idea of 3D printed nails; is this
something that you would try yourself or not really something that you’re
interested in?
