Let’s rewind back to the 1990’s when everyone wanted to be
the next big supermodel to take the world by storm. Leading the way were now
icons – Kate Moss, Niomi Campbell, Claudia
Schiffer and Cindy Crawford to name a few. They were the first generation of
supermodels, leading successful advertising campaigns and making what the
industry is today. However with the invention of social media and reality
television are the new generation of supermodels even more powerful than the
original?
Major corporate
brands are no longer focused on only revenue and market share but more so on
increasing their online presence and connecting with a younger audience. We’ve
listed a few of our favourite new supermodels currently making a huge impact in
fashion.
Kendall Jenner
The mini Kardashian grew up in front of the camera from the
tender age of 11. Her entire childhood/adulthood has been documented on the hit
reality series ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ which has helped her establish
her profile and launch her modelling career. Her career began at 14 when she
was signed to Wilamenhia models and slowly began gaining more exposure in the
industry. Her big break came in 2014 when she landed all 4 fashion weeks and
walked for multiple designers such as Diane Von Furstenburg in New York, Fendi
in Milan, Topshop in London and Chanel in Paris. With over 35.5 million
followers on Instagram and 12.2 million followers on Twitter, Kendall’s
definitely a force to be reckoned with.
Emerging supermodel Gigi Hadid began her modelling career
aged 2 modelling for Baby Guess. She led a model free life in L.A. afterwards
to pursue her studies until finally moving to New York in 2013 to focus on her
modelling career. Her career has gone from strength to strength ever since,
gracing the cover of Vogue magazines worldwide, made her New York fashion week
debut and has starred in several music videos. Her profile has certainly been
boosted making alliances with the Kardashian clan as she’s often seen out and
about with Kendall and Kylie Jenner.
