• Wearable Art Designer: Satin Maaranen

There is always that one designer that you will never forget; Satin Maaranen is one designer I won’t forget in a hurry. As much as I like designer fashion it all can become a bit commercialised and repetitive with hardly any risks taken to produce the most avant-garde of collections. So when fresh talent makes its way into the industry I get a little excited, which is why I’m presenting to you a wearable art design with a funky edge.

She is truly the master of the Arts; Maaranen is a Helsinki based fashion designer. The talented fashionista only graduated last year from the University School of Art Design and Architecture. On graduating university, Maaranen’s final collection was marvelled at as a spectacular piece of work. The fact that it won first prize with a unanimous vote at Hyeres Fashion Festival emphasises the greatness of this collection.

Marranen’s work has been featured in big global publications, in the likes of Vogue Paris, Business of Fashion and Marie Claire. Saitn Maaranen still continues to design and she is currently broadening her skill base as a freelance designer.

What I love about this collection is that it is instantly recognisable to her style. The collection oozes feminine aesthetics infused with structural architectural pieces that contrasts with the dense durable fabric.  Much of the collection is oversized with strong bold colour blocking entwined into skirts trousers and accessory designs, in distinctive unusual and cuts.

I love this collection because it embodies everything that I would imagine wearable art collection to be. The collection has innovative conceptualised vision of fashion today, which draws on fine art as a source of inspiration, which she has depicted through the medium of smeared paint marks.

I can't wait to see more work from Satin Maaranen. What do you think?
